Kimat graduated from Leicester University in 1999 with a degree in Law and Economics. He completed the legal practice course at the London College of Law before working in the corporate department of a major London city law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Kimat returned to his home town of Ipswich to complete his formal training, qualifying as a solicitor in 2003. He joined the commercial property department of Kerseys in 2003.

Personal interests
Kimat enjoys a variety of sporting activities and works closely with the local community on a number of voluntary projects. He speaks Punjabi, Hindi and conversational Urdu.
